FORM AND PRESENTATION :
White, round and flat breakable tablet.
Aluminium foils of 3 tablets in a paper pouch.
COMPOSITION PER TABLET :
Sulfadoxine (INN) USP 500mg
Pyrimethamine (INN) USP 25mg
PROPERTIES :
Active against asexual blood form of malarial parasite.
INDICATIONS :
Curative treatment of malaria, especially in Plasmodium
Falciparum form resistant to antimalarial agents such as chloroquine or when other antimalarial agents are contraindicated.
DOSAGE :
Single dose treatment.
Children from 2 to 4 years: 1/2 tablet.
Children from 4 to 8 years: 1 tablet.
Children from 9 to 14 years: 2 tablets.
Adult: 3 tablets.
Paludoxine can be used association with antibiotics or injectable quinine.
CONTRAINDICATIONS :
Hypersensitivity to sulphonamides.
Marked liver parenchyma damage or blood dyscrasias.
Pregnancy and lactation.
PRECAUTIONS AND WARNINGS :
It’s a single dose treatment and can’t be repeated except in case of necessity with 8 days at least before taking another dose.
Don’t use Paludoxine in prophylactic treatment.
At the first appearance of hypersensitivity, especially a skin rash, should conduct to stop immediately and definitely using this product.
INTERACTIONS :
If Paludoxine is used in association with Trimethoprime (alone or in combination), haematological monitoring is required.
ADVERSE EEFFECTS :
Rarely, gastrointestinal reactions. Hypersensitivity reactions.
Haematological troubles.
