M-Cotrimoxazole - Oral suspension 240mg/5ml

FORM AND PRESENTATION :
Yellow oral suspension, pineapple flavor.
100ml bottle.

COMPOSITION PER 5ML (TEESPOON) :
Sulfamethoxazole (INN) BP       200mg
Trimethoprime (INN) BP               40mg

PROPERTIES :
Anti-infectious associating of a sulpha drug, the Sulfamethoxazole, and a pyrimidine, the Trimethoprime.
It is an active bacteriostatic on Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Proteus, Salmonella, Shigelles, Haemophilus, Vibrio, Neisseria.

INDICATIONS :
Infections due to germs sensitive to cotrimoxazole, particularly in their respiratory, N.E.T and genitourinary reactions.
Certain digestive infections like typhoid.

DOSAGE :
30mg / Kg of Sulfamethoxazole and 6mg / Kg of Trimethoprime each day, divided during the day.
Adults : Preferably use the 480mg tablet form.
Children : 3 to 6 measurers of 5ml each day.
Infants : 1 to 4 measures of 5ml each day.

CONTRAINDICATIONS :
Allergy to components and particularly to sulpha-drugs.
Deficiency of G6PD.
Infants.

INTERACTIONS :
The association with methotrexate is contraindicated : there is an increase in hematological toxicity of the product.
The association with Pyrimethamine can provoke a deficiency of folic acid and bring about a megaloblastic anemia.
The anticoagulants of coumarinic type, the anti-diabetics of sulfonylurea type and the phenytoines are potentialized in case of association with Cotrimoxazole.

PRECAUTIONS AND WARNINGS :
Inform the physician in case of renal or hepatic deficiency or of hematological past histories.
A blood check-up is advised, especially in case of extended treatment or association with Pyrimethamine.

ADVERSE EFFECTS :
Skin disturbances, urticaria. Digestive disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain.
