M-Ceftriaxone - Vial IP 0,5g

FORM AND PRESENTATION :
White micro-crystalline powder for IM / IV injectable preparation.
Sealed vial of 10ml.

COMPOSITION FOR ONE VIAL :
Ceftriaxone (INN) disodic salt       0,5g.

PROPERTIES :
Bactericidal antibiotic of beta-lactamin family (C3G group Cefalosporin of 3rd generation) with very large spectrum.

INDICATIONS :
Serious infections due to sensitive bacteria, including septicemia, pneumonia and meningitis. It is used as a reserve antimicrobial to treat meningitis due to Streptococcus pneumoniae. Treatment of Lyme desease.
Surgical prophylaxis ; prophylaxis of meningococcal meningitis ; gonorrhea.

DOSAGE :
By deep intramuscular injection, by intravenous injection (over at least 2-4 minutes) or by intravenous infusion (over 60 minutes) :
Adult 1g daily ; severe infections 2-4g daily ; Children under 50kg 20-50mg/kg daily ; up to 80mg/kg daily in severe infections (doses of 50mg/kg and over by intravenous infusion) ; Neonates 20-50mg/kg daily maximum.
Surgical prophylaxis, by deep intramuscular injection or by intravenous injection (over at least 2-4 minutes) : Adult 1g at induction.
Uncomplicated gonorrhea, by deep intramuscular injection : Adult 1g as a single dose.
Colorectal surgery (with antibacterial active against anaerobes), by deep intramuscular injection or by intravenous injection : Adult 2g as a single dose.

CONTRAINDICATIONS :
Cefalosporin and penicillin hypersensitivity.
Porphyria ; neonates with jaundice.

INTERACTIONS :
Association with oral anticoagulant, vancomycin, fluconazole and aminosides should be avoid. M-Ceftriaxone can't be mixed with calcium solution.

PRECAUTIONS AND WARNINGS :
Severe renal impairment ; premature neonates ; treatment longer than 14 days ; pregnancy and breastfeeding.

ADVERSE EFFECTS :
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort.
