FORM AND PRESENTATION :
White, round and flat tablet, by 10 in a blister.
COMPOSITION PER TABLET :
Cimetidine (INN) BP 400mg
EXCIPIENTS WITHK NOWN EFFECT :
Lactose.
PROPERTIES :
Against gastric or duodenal ulcer by inhibition of gastric acid secretion.
Cimetidine is active by competitive inhibition on the histamine H2-receptors.
INDICATIONS :
Gastric and duodenal ulcer.
Gastro-oesophagial reflux.
Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. DOSAGE :
Generally 2 tablets at bedtime.
Treatment have to be taken for 4 weeks at least, even if pains have disappeared.
Prophylaxis of recurrent ulcer : 1 tablet at bedtime. CONTRAINDICATIONS :
Hypersensitivity to the product.
Renal impairment.
Children under 15 years.
INTERACTIONS :
Cimetidine inhibits some hepatic enzymes, so concentration of some drugs in the blood may be increased.
Not recommended association with phenytoin.
Careful use with anticoagulants, beta-blockers, carbamazepine, nifedipine, theophylline.
Association to be known : benzodiazepines (increased sleepiness).
PRECAUTIONS AND WARNINGS :
Avoid in pregnancy and lactation.
Evidence of ulcer should be controlled before treatment.
ADVERSE EFFECTS :
Sometime : diarrhoea, tiredness, muscular pain, dizziness.
