FORM AND PRESENTATION
White, round and flat tablet with a single breakline on one side.
COMPOSITION FOR 1 TABLET
Captopril (INN) BP 25 mg
PROPERTIES
Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitor.
INDICATIONS
All grades of essential hypertension. Congestive heart failure.
During first 24 hours of myocardial infarction with stable hemodynamical situation.
Post myocardial infarction with left ventricular systolic dysfunction and without heart failure.
Diabetic proteinuria.
DOSAGE
Swallow prescribed dose during or after meal.
Generally start with 1/4 of 25mg tablet to avoid marked fall in blood pressure with first dose and increase to get the right blood pressure.
Usually dosage is 25mg 2 times each day and increased gradually up to 100mg a day.
Dosage can be increased with blood and kidney monitoring.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Pregnancy, breast-feeding.
Hypersensitivity.
PRECAUTIONS AND WARNINGS
Stop or adjust concomitant use of diuretic 3 days before beginning Captopril treatment and monitor blood pressure.
Anaesthesia : correct sodium depletion, if any before initiating therapy.
In case of concurrent use of immunosuppresant or leukopenic drugs : monitor hematology and urinary protein before and during therapy.
Bilateral renal artery stenosis renal failure may be precipitated.
INTERACTIONS
Avoid concomitant use of potassium and / or potassium sparing diuretics because of increasing risk of hyperkalaemia.
Lithium with captopril increases risk of hyperlthaemia.
ADVERSE EEFFECTS
Dry cough, itch, rashes, alteration of taste sensation, vertigo, headache.
Rarely, anaemia, granulocyto-penia, proteinuria, hyperkalaemia.
Most of these troubles decreases or disappear with lower dosage.
