Abuja — Plans are underway to intensify and strengthen the chains of pharmaceutical distribution across the country, the registrar of the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria Dr Ahmed Mora. Mora disclosed this at the opening ceremony of a two day workshop for superintendent and production pharmacists of pharmaceutical manufacturing companies in Nigeria organized by the council Tuesday in Abuja. He said, "PCN has observed some lapses in pharmaceutical distribution of drugs by most manufactures of pharmaceutical products in Nigeria." "There has also been reports by pharmaceutical inspectors of the PCN from routine inspections to the pharmaceutical companies which indicates that there is need to correct the observed deviance," he said The Registrar said that every pharmaceutical manufacturing company was expected to have at least two pharmacists, who should comprise of a superintendent and production pharmacist. The superintendent pharmacists he said was to register the company while the production pharmacists ensures that best practices in drug production is observed He noted that most pharmaceutical outlets neither had any of the two giving rise to poor quality of the manufactured products and a breakdown in the pharmaceutical distribution of drugs. "The PCN is intensifying efforts to ensure efficiency in the distribution of drugs by manufacturers in conformity to the laid down principles of the PCN on the setting up of pharmaceutical outlets," he said. The Abuja workshop was a continuation of a series of capacity building programmes for the Pharmacists in the North central zone, while a similar one would be organized in Enugu and Lagos before the end of the year
