Delegate of Public Health says unbridled belligerency among tradi-practitioners has caused disorder in the sector.
The Regional Delegate of Public Health for the West Region Dr. Elhadji Salifou was speaking during the 7th edition of African traditional medicine day in the West region. He blamed said tradi-practitioner for the spirits of aggression and confrontation. The delegate regretted that despite the concern the Ministry of Public Health is putting on the practice of tradi-medicine, the tradi-practitioners in the West-region have remained in disharmony. He called on the tradi-practitioners to bury their hatches and seek ways to avoid breaking-up. Dr Elhadji Salifou announced a general assembly of tradi-practitioners in Bafoussam in October 2009, where a final solution will be reached.
He said some tradi-practitioners have used the tactics of divide-and rule methods to break-up the association in the West region and embezzle the funds. He revealed that the sum of CFA 510.000 has been given by Dr. Dewah modern clinic, to the association to mark this year's 7th edition of African tradi-medicine.
It should be noted that only 17 out of 360 registered members of tradi-practitioners in the West region attended the official ceremony because the others boycotted, protesting the mismanagement of finances by some individual who are not tradi-practitioners.
While presiding over the ceremony, the legal and financial adviser in the west governor's office Mr Abdulaye Aliou, condemned the conflict of leadership among the tradi-practitioners, and questioned why Mr. Sonkouat Paul, had to set up another body when Dr Wembe Jean, Regional President of (Regroupement des presidents des associations des tradi-praticiens de santé du Cameroun) RPATSC was present, adding that it was the displacement by some individuals for selfish, interest that has caused the disorder in the association. He called on the regional president of RPATSC, Dr Wembe Jean to quickly seek a better solution to the problem of tradi-association in the region before government takes action. The public ceremony that was scheduled to start at 2 pm finally started at 5pm, and was transferred to the conference hall of the delegation of health, because only 17 out of 360 members attended the ceremony.
